Summer #readpawty

We will not meet in July. Next meeting will be Aug 3. I have 4 books listed here. Read one, some or all of them!

The Persian Pickle Club
by Sandra Dallas. 61% off new at Amazon. Available through libraries.
“Hard times in Depression-era Harveyville, Kansas, are softened by the conviviality of a weekly quilting circle called the Persian Pickle Club. Queenie Bean, the "talkingest" member of the group, narrates the novel with snappy style. Over the course of a year, during which the club experiences more sorrow than sewing, Queenie and her pals depend on one another more than ever.” Has a surprise twist ending. Maggie’s mom likes this book due to strong women.

James Herriot's Cat Stories
by James Herriot
James Herriot's Dog Stories by James Herriot
Lots of copies new, used, and at libraries of these books. There are 2 editions of the dog book, and it doesn’t matter which you get.
If you have never read James Herriot, you are in for a treat. He will make you laugh, cry, and share his love for each of the animals this small town Yorkshire vet treats. MizzBassie and Maggie’s mom highly recommend. Easy reads, perfect for summer.

The Cat, The Quilt and The Corpse: A Cats in Trouble Mystery by Leann Sweeney. Copies available new, used, and maybe in libraries
“Jill's quiet life is shattered when her house is broken into and her Abyssinian, Syrah, goes missing. Jill's convinced her kitty's been catnapped. But when her cat-crime-solving leads her to a murdered body, suddenly all paws are pointing to Jill. Soon, Jill discovers that Syrah isn't the only purebred who's been stolen. Now she has to find these furry felines before they all become the prey of a cold-blooded killer-and she ends up nabbed for a crime...”
Leann is a new writer in the cat mystery genre. Mom lost her book on a trip and had to buy another one; guess that tells you something about the book!
If you have read this book, a second one in the series came out May 4, so try that one!

  2. Wow! They all sound like a good read. Now that we're done with our month long construction project, I'll have some time to read them!!

  3. We read several of the cat books people mentioned. We still like von Braun's books for a light read after a long day.
Reading Margaret Truman's Murder at the Watergate now; pretty good read.
